The Rodin Project

Russell Maliphant / Sadler’s Wells London | Great Britain

The balance between physicality and weightlessness in the oeuvre of Auguste Rodin provides the inspiration for British choreographer Russell Maliphant to his current work. To capture the energy and emotion of Rodin’s works, he created a two-part evening: the first part is dedicated to Rodin’s watercolors, in the second part he refers to Rodin’s sculptures. Maliphant uses classical dance styles as well as contemporary forms: hip hop, body popping, locking and others. In collaboration with dancers from various disciplines, he is able to achieve a 360-degree view from various aesthetic, historical and stylistic perspectives on both dance and the work of Auguste Rodin.
