Isn’t one’s own voice always inauthentic and uncanny? In «Voicing Pieces», Begüm Erciyas plays delightfully with this fascinating feeling and invites us to recognize the stranger in oneself. Mushroom-like sound booths – small reading stations and one-person theatres – are spread around the room waiting for the voices of the audience. «One. Two. One. Two. Three. Check. Check.» A simple sound check is transformed into a poem of voices that becomes increasingly distant and stranger. Worlds open up and suddenly you are standing next to yourself struggling to recognize yourself. Begüm Erciyas manages to send us on a journey through our own voice in the short duration of just 30 minutes – until we leave the performance drunk with happiness.
