Jordi Galí & Cie Arrangement Provisoire | France
The symbolic raising of a decorated Maypole is a common and popular custom in rural parts of central and northern Europe. The beliefs and rituals surrounding the raising of a Maypole are as traditional as they are varied, as celebratory as they are collaborative in nature. The dancer and choreographer Jordi Galí and his company expands on this tradition by erecting a 10-metre high, exquisite sculpture in Basel and Birsfelden. Passers-by are welcome to accompany and enjoy the construction process lasting several hours. They can come and go as they please and experience together how a beautiful Maypole unfolds in front of their very eyes.
