Using two furious drummers and eight bearded dancers, the French choreographer Christian Rizzo has been enthralling audiences from Avignon to Paris with this contemporary version of traditional male dances.

Roughly ten years ago Rizzo witnessed a group of men jump up on stage during a show, perform a traditional dance and then disappear as quickly as they had arrived. The search for this magical moment and the sense of excitement he had felt has resulted in a dance that culminates in sheer ecstasy, accompanied by an incessant drumbeat which leaves a lasting impression long after the last euphoric movements of the dancers.
