Während ich wartete

Omar Abusaada | Syria

A young man in Damascus was beaten into a coma under mysterious circumstances. This story serves the director as the starting point for a new theatre work: Over a period of one year, Taim lies in a coma observing the changes in his environment. His family continues to struggle with the dramatic death of his father, and this latest blow is crippling. Witness statements and family members as well as Taim’s imaginary thoughts create a collage for the state of Syria’s political climate, caught somewhere between life and death, hope and despair, surrender and fighting it out. The coma becomes the ultimate message to the regime; the subconscious mind a means of resistance against oppressive forces.
