Ten supermarket cashiers dressed in blue smocks, holding beeping barcode scanners in their hands, always ready with a friendly “Good morning. Have a good day!” – listen to them sing the universal supermarket soundtrack. Individual voices become apparent above the choral texture of the working ritual: The women use the songs to express their hopes and disappointments while coming to terms with their job or rebelling against their destiny.
