Sous leurs pieds, le paradis

Radhouane El Meddeb | Tunisia & France

By engaging in a dialogue of dance with the voice of the legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, the Tunisian choreographer and dancer Radhouane El Meddeb has created a solo performance between minimalism and expressivity. Accompanied by the love song “Al Atlal” (The Ruins), which deals with love, longing and loss, he goes in search of passion, vulnerability and his femininity. Body, posture and melancholic music blend into a homage to the singer, the mother, the woman. Based on the passage from the Quran “Paradise lies at the feet of the mother ...” he has, together with the choreographer Thomas Lebrun, created a hymn of love that is also a cry for freedom.
